SensSmartTech validation study under way at Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences
March – May, 2023
We are putting the polycardigraph under a serious test. Healthy volunteers are asked to run with the ECG electrodes, plethysmograph and accelerometer attached to the body. We take recordings before and after the run to test impact of the heart rate on signal features.
It’s fun and we need volunteers! If you are interested, please contact Dr. Jovana Petrović at jovanap@vin.bg.ac.rs.

Dr. Tadić gave an invited talk at the 16th Photonics Workshop, 2023
March, 2023
Dr. Predrag Tadić has given an invited talk titled „Photoplethysmogram (PPG) as a source of biomarkers for AI-based diagnosis of heart failure“ at the 16th Photonics Workshop on Kopaonik. He presented the SensSmart prototype device and discussed the challenges before the extraction of PPG signal features.
Here you can find the Abstract.
We have also presented a new algorithm for denoising of ECG and PPG signals, see the Abstract.

We have made first academic studies in the brand new Clinical Centre of Serbia. The polycardiograph works!
The kick-off meeting
12 April 2022
The kick-off meeting of the IDEAS SensSmart project financed by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia has been held at at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade on April 12th 2022.
The project team members and officers from the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and the School of Electronic Engineering, University of Belgrade, gathered for a bonding session and introductory discussion of scientific and organizational matters of the project.
With a strong motivation, high ambition and clear plan, we are setting off on developing a new multiparameter diagnostic technology that will enable heart failure diagnostics in primary care.
Our multidisciplinary team: Prof. Dr. Arsen Ristic and Prof. Dr. Vladan Vukcevic (Faculty of Medicine), Aleksandra Lazic, Dr. Jovana Petrovic and Dr. Ljupco Hadzievski (INN Vinca), Natalija Djordjevic and Dr. Predrag Tadic (School of Electronic Engineering), and Ana Pavlovic (project officer, INN Vinca).

Invited talk at the 15th Photonics Workshop, Serbia, March 2022
Dr. Jovana Petrovic gave an invited talk on SensSmart project at the Photonics Workshop, Kopaonik, Serbia, March 2022. She has presented our work on multiparameter sensing technology and preliminary results of polycardiographic measurements. The emphasis was on photonic sensors used to measure pulse forms of arterial pulsations. Conventionally used photoplethysmographs are usually designed as point sensors, which makes the measurement operator-dependent. This reduces the measurement reproducibility and increases cost. The linear form and high sensitivity of the fibre gratings ameliorate the operator dependence. However, cross-sensitivity of fibre gratings to the body movement cause artefacts in signals. These preliminary inspire further investigations of both sensors within the SensSmart project.
